Three years of waiting and seemingly a lifetime of suffering culminated in a day of relief and complete rejoicing. Orbil Abordo, 16, a hernia surgery patient, had his successful surgery at VRP Medical Center last September 17, 2023, with financial aid granted by the Operasyon Polymedic Damayan Foundation (OPDF).
His sister, who stood by him every step of the way, narrated that her brother’s condition was diagnosed three years ago by Dr. Alfredo Potenciano. However, he cannot continue the operation because of the pandemic and the risks involved. It was a blessing, however, that the same doctor, who also attends to their grandmother, suggested OPDF and the family immediately said, “Yes!”
Anticipating that there may be some fees to be paid ahead of time, Orbil’s mother and the sister asked around and were graciously joined by Dr. Glen Camaymayan to the Admitting, only to find out that they would have to pay “NOTHING!”. “Akala namin Malaki babayaran naming, yun pala pagpunta naming sa billing wala kami binayaran” The joint discount that the foundation offers, plus the help of PhilHealth, decreased the bill to zero. “Lagi po dinadalaw ng mga Doctor at mga nurses yung kapatid ko” Orbil’s sister said. “Ramdam po namin ang Alagang VRP mula sa aruga ng mga doctor at staff. Irerekomenda po naming ang Operasyon Polymedic Damayan Foundation sa hipag ko, yung kanyang anak eh may bukol sa hita”
The teary eyes of the mother and sister, plus the relieved smile from Orbil, are a testament that help is always on the way. “Liit,” as his family calls him, will now stand tall again, free from his ailment and large payment.
Operasyon Polymedic Damayan Foundation (Damayan) is VRP Medical Center’s vehicle in subsidizing medical services to indigent patients since 1992.
