The Nuclear Medicine Department offers radioactive iodine therapy for hypothyroidism or diffuses toxic goiter and of course thyroid cancer. Patients absorb the iodine either by injection by pill or through a solution. Side effects are minimal because it is peculiar to the thyroid. It travels inside the body and stays in the thyroid. The iodine doesn’t get trapped in the body. It’s secreted either through the patient’s sweat glands, urine, or stool.
